Welcome to The Ensign Ewart Whisky Bar, on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

The Ensign Ewart has a rich history dating back to 1680, when a pub was first established at this location. It has changed a bit since then, but it still retains much of its original charm, and always has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The closest pub to Edinburgh Castle, and the highest pub in Edinburgh - it's all downhill from here!

With around 250 whiskies on the bar at any one time, we don't have the biggest selection in town, but it is constantly changing. We have around 50 permanent whiskies on the bar from some of our favourite distilleries, with the rest being made up of a constantly evolving selection of indie bottlers, closed distilleries, rare and unusual bottling, grains, blends, world whisky - you name it, it's probably been on the bar at some point!

We also have 4 rotating cask ales, all from Scottish breweries, along side an extensive selection of other Scottish spirits, wines, cocktails, and boozy hot drinks! If you're hungry, we have a small (but perfectly formed) menu featuring lighter bites, from legendary local suppliers like IJ Mellis Cheesemongers and East Coast Cured Charcuterie.

ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION

We are located towards the top end of The Royal Mile. There are steps leading up to the pavement outside the pub, however it is level with the road a little further up towards the castle. Please be aware there is a small step at the entrance to the pub, and a single larger step to enter the back section of the pub once inside. A portable wheelchair ramp is available, please ask a member of staff for assistance if required. We do not currently have accessible toilets. If you require further information please phone 01312257440.
